Office Hours
BOOST “Office Hours” are one-hour blocks, scheduled 2-3 times per week, for staff to be able to ask questions about managing a research portfolio at Yale, as well as navigating Yale systems and policies/procedures. This time is typically spent addressing everyday challenges that newer staff encounter.
Office Hours can also be requested as a deployment to a department when there is an open manager position, a new manager in the role, or a manager on leave to help address any training gaps.
FAQs
- Does the BOOST Onboarding program provide DBO/IBO specific training content as part of the onboarding?
No; this course does not support DBO/IBO specific training content. Our goal is to provide School-level information on policies and procedures relevant to Finance and RA staff in every department. If attendees have questions on DBO/IBO specific information, they will be directed to contact their manager for advisement.
- Does the BOOST Onboarding program provide training on University policies and procedures?
No; this course does not provide training on University policies and procedures; however, we will provide information on where to find University training and relevant support offices. In addition, this course provides staff with protected time to take University Workday Learning courses and provides time to discuss what they have learned, specifically on how to apply that information to their role at YSM.
- I have a new Financial Assistant (C&T) joining our team. Can they be included in the next BOOST Cohort?
Not at this time. Our content is focused on research administration and financial management concepts which may be out of scope for FA responsibilities. However, we are happy to discuss on a case-by-case basis and may develop an onboarding program more specific to the FA role in the future.
- What is the maximum size of each cohort?
Our maximum cohort size is currently 8.
- Is there a charge to departments to enroll staff in the program?
No, there is no charge for this for YSM staff.
- When is the best time is for someone to enroll in the program?
Anytime, though new staff are encouraged to sign up as soon as they begin. The program has been designed for someone new to Yale and/or research administration or someone who would like a refresher. Priority will be given to those new to Yale.
- Can staff from outside of YSM (SPH/NUR) take part in the program?
Yes; priority will be given to YSM staff. Please note we reference Finance and ORA learning content that is universal, but our training content is specific to YSM financial process and YSM central departments so it may contain information that is not relevant to staff outside of YSM.
